Do you love me (God asks us all) more than the world?, free will vs. determinism, God gives us a choice for sound reason
Materialism: an ascribed tendency to consider material possessions and physical comforts more important than spiritual values.
[As to philosophy, it is found a doctrine to maintain consciousness and will are wholly due to material agency.]
If there was ever a more sure enemy we have faced, in history or today, it would be clearly observed in any individual maintaining the idea,”There are no sins… and since there are no sins there is no reason to be forgiven!” This flies in the face of anyone believing in Jesus Christ, or Christianity, for the Bible teaches us a concept of sin, mankind being born into it, which stands in opposition to this assumption. So what I’d ask you (this enemy) is this,”Is he really the enemy of the human race — because he is so human?” I’d say ‘YES’ to this very question!
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
As if it could be disputably proven, mankind has no free will, then to strive to prove the point renders it being pointless to the argument… likewise immaterial to the outcome. Does this sound like a settled mind, one confirming nothing but the assumption it concludes to be correct, or one learning to assign what one has chosen against another: idea, concept, fact or opinion. It all sounds so aleatoric (so unscientific, being left to random chance over sound reason) to presume such an endeavor but some philosophers have argued against it. Anthony Collins (1676-1729) is one arguing against free will, or to Louis Althusser (1918-1990)… one more in line with communist thoughts by Marx… and argued, in a letter to his mentor Jean Lacroix, one of the only ways to realizing Christian values is through communist action … and one James Ward (1843-1925) to argue in behalf of ‘free will’ being an absolute. It should be noted all three points of view come under the same umbrella of thought and on ‘Materialism’ being the prevailing topic. You can read from the varied thoughts of man above, right or wrong is a conclusion you must come to on your own, and this exemplifies free will- doesn’t it?
It is when God uses ‘free will’ to determine where we will be found, with Him or without Him, and know there is no in between! It is a tool by God to show what is inside our heart… where there is found the measure of an individual’s worth. Is it belonging to the spiritual side of life or (just) the mortal/temporal side and believes in satisfying the passions of the flesh over the will of God?
[The abstract below is found here, on ‘Will’ and of its implication to mankind.]
It is remarkable that love for God has been commanded (Deut 6:5). True love cannot be coerced. The obvious implication for this central response to Israel’s fundamental statement of God’s unique nature is the requirement of loyalty based on the ability to choose.
When we look at the life of Job, by example, and still think to shake our fist at God directly… look here to find how absurd and ludicrous this action becomes!
Joshua 1:10-11 10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.
–Thoughts from a Canaanite woman–
Rahab knew and understood who the God of the Hebrews was… the will of God for her was to: help His people, see to her own safety and that of her family was addressed and know/trust God would grant her grace/salvation/deliverance from God’s wrath.
This brings us to today, present time, and what is being done… see through the prisms provided by the media- still in light of God’s will for us or to be seen against God, His people… Israel, or without love for any but your own!
