They say a picture is worth a thousand words,
so one can assume great value to be placed…
ideas abounding, flourishing, and meaning for
each of them the room to grow- not displaced,
Let’s see this in reverse, where a few words
paint us a picture of an image so incredible…
so incredible as to assault the mind to read the
words and find an image etched… left indelible,
‘Neither height nor length nor breadth nor death
can separate us from His love.’ This overtakes me
and steals my breath, to imagine such a four
dimensional abstraction of thought to be so free,
this is the very definition of ‘beyond time and
space,’ it would matter little to what might go
on in this life, and to know time is of no big
consequence, no depth of being alone to know…
what little pain we’d feel from believing in
His name, based on eternity, this is so minute…
minutia of harm, the length of time so spent
here, to us might seem long, an ‘eternal minute,’
here width, we’d imagine, can be found (today) in
concepts of plurality… but there is no equality,
christianity is the glory found in God Himself…
we are to repent, come to Him to see magnanimity.
What does look like a reference to something four dimensional and an image… transcends any belief man could ever find in or for himself. I think knowing Jesus is not confined in His ability to save us, not even by time (remember Lazarus… already dead for four days), is where our ‘eternal hope’ should bring us profound joy. To fully understand: Jesus, the life of Jesus or the (full) reason for the need to see the importance of what Jesus was all about… one need only go back to look at the gifts given to Jesus when He was born. Each of the gifts given Jesus (to Mary and Joseph) are significant in the revealing of who and what Jesus was, is and is to come. These gifts were from Kings (themselves) and they would have been into either astral signs or astrology. They found importance in the star they followed to be told where and when the Messiah would be born.
We are not to fear what might come or befall us… for we belong to the living God, and He keeps us in His hand at all times.
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
24 O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
[The abstracts below come from here, and you can find this from Ephesians 3:1… and you can find them by going to the compare button, and then the Critical Commentary at the bottom]
the mystery of Christ–The “mystery” is Christ Himself, once hidden, but now revealed ( Colossians 1:27 ).
breadth . . . length . . . depth . . . height–namely, the full dimensions of the spiritual temple, answering to “the fulness of God” ( Ephesians 3:19 ), to which the Church, according to its capacity, ought to correspond (compare Ephesians 4:10Ephesians 4:13 ) as to “the fulness of Christ.” The “breadth” implies Christ’s world-wide love, embracing all men: the “length,” its being extended through all ages ( Ephesians 3:21 ); the “depth,” its profound wisdom which no creature can fathom ( Romans 11:33 ); the “height,” its being beyond the reach of any foe to deprive us of ( Ephesians 4:8 ) [BENGEL]. I prefer to understand “the breadth,” &c., to refer to the whole of the vast mystery of free salvation in Christ for all, Gentile and Jew alike, of which Paul had been speaking ( Ephesians 3:3-9 ), and of which he now prays they may have a fuller comprehension. As subsidiary to this, and the most essential part of it, he adds, “and to know the love of Christ” ( Ephesians 3:19 ). GROTIUS understands depth and height of God’s goodness raising us from the lowest depression to the greatest height.
Should we come to different conclusions, I would leave this to be searched out… between you and the Spirit of God, and can say there are many interpretational offerings- each of them may or may not be spot on. Please come to know this one simple fact, our God is bigger than any one view… never to be placed in any one box of thought (exclusive to any one opinion). The instant we attempt to confine God to our individual view or way we would understand Him to be is when we lose perspective- thinking God must conform to our opinion of what and who He is. In truth, we are to conform to His way and will… to show we revere and honor God for who He is- supreme! Even in God’s word we find revealed many: paradoxes, parallels, layers and levels to scripture- even an overtaking of love surpassing all understanding. One example of this is (from both OT [Old Testament] to NT [New Testament]) the story of Abraham and Isaac (the image of sacrificing the Son) to the telling of the life of Jesus (the sacrifice of the Son of God)- start to finish and a parallel for all to clearly see.
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
[Below is an abstract, taken from here, to reveal a great mystery… we all need the Messiah!]
in turning away every one of you from his iniquities–that is, “Hitherto we have all been looking too much for a Messiah who should shed outward blessings upon the nation generally, and through it upon the world. But we have learned other things, and now announce to you that the great blessing with which Messiah has come laden is the turning away of every one of you from his iniquities.” With what divine skill does the apostle, founding on resistless facts, here drive home to the conscience of his auditors their guilt in crucifying the Lord of Glory; then soothe their awakened minds by assurances of forgiveness on turning to the Lord, and a glorious future as soon as this shall come to pass, to terminate with the Personal Return of Christ from the heavens whither He has ascended; ending all with warnings, from their own Scriptures, to submit to Him if they would not perish, and calls to receive from Him the blessings of salvation.
