Thought: neopaganism is to the emerging church movement what Martin Luthor was to the Protestant movement… the activity of specific practices, enabled by Hegelian dialectics (thesis, antithesis and synthesis), are being applied to theology and ‘a new age spiritualism’ vs. reformation of thought against ritualized religion compared to personalized religion.
The day and time in which we live today, a time of extremes (convergence of past and present coming to a head), shares ‘political correctness’ (convinced this leads us to sensitivity and understanding of difference) and calculated actions of extreme prejudice (Muslim extremism and motivation for it). These extremes bring to the table of discussion, should this be allowed to continue openly… as mature adults should be capable of doing, paths of mankind and the desired goal to be reached. There seems to be more than one goal, depending on who you talk to, coming from the difference of beliefs… and intolerance to having a/any belief other than the status quo- being pushed on society as a whole (this coming from Social Science or Social Engineers). Were you aware there is the thought, within Psychological circles (stemming from Philosophy), where it is to be learned that prejudice is discussed as,”The Positivity of Prejudice.” The very notion of ‘prejudice’ being or having a positive connotation is strikingly odd to me; whereas, having a bias to my personal opinions or belief is not. Prejudice is more to preconceived opinion (not necessarily based on reason or actual experience) or suggestion what bias is to christian faith… perceived as holding the essence of truth manifest by God Himself.
Under the impetus of causing doubt, there are groups gaining in power among us seeking to influence society by: undermining christian belief(s) and practices, distortion of the views of the church and upend the sense of justice. Modern day atheists, such as the FFRF (Freedom From Religion Foundation) are a part of this movement, as are those people with a neopaganism oriented method or practice, and the goal is to dilute or obliterate: beliefs counter to their own, do away with the viewpoint of sin and restore the means to do anything one so chooses to do with reminders of guilt for having done them. ‘Moral relativism’ is the viewpoint holding nothing is wrong and it is to be solely determined on an individual basis. Add to this mix extremists within any religion, those that would deprive anyone of exercising their ‘free will’ to choose on their own what God they will serve and worship. When misstated truths are held in higher esteem than referenced material from religious sources, such as the Bible is (historic, proven by prophecy and verifiable), the desired goal will be either to remove all aspects of God from all cultures or to promote one God in a Kingdom [today] as being the only one mankind should serve- or die.
According to ‘The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy,’ and listed under Hans-Georg Gadamer, in section 3.1, Gadamer expresses ‘a positive conception as pre-judgement is connected several ideas associated to his approach to hermeneutics.’ This is followed up with the claim, that ‘temporal distance’ can play a useful role… enabling us to better identify those prejudices that exercise a problematic influence on understanding. It must be understood when one gauges hermeneutics, as it relates to things of the spirit or of God (Biblical hermeneutics), man’s prejudice should never be central to thoughts ascribed (or practiced historically: understood) as being against what is shown us in the Bible- for christian relationship, consumption of the word of God or for christianity as a whole. To better see and add understanding here… I share with you something seen in 2 Peter 2:15, see this below…
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Hermeneutics is best known as the study of principles of interpretation, as a method for learning, concerning the books of the Bible.
If the problem, as seen by man or society, is to perceive themselves as good… without a sense of wrongdoing then altering the view of what is taught within the church itself is but a goal we see alive today. What has been termed as ‘the emerging church‘ and their teaching(s) actually goes counter to what is in the Bible. Let me preface this with a statement by one such preacher, Brian McLaren, and this quote comes directly from the page and link above… from the heading of ‘Brian’s Blog.’
“Jesus not only saves us from sin; he saves us from unhelpful ways of reading scripture. He inserts himself into the ongoing arguments among his people, discerns God’s intent in their trajectory and extends the conversation into the future, often turning in new directions. When he says, ‘You have heard it said…but I say to you’ in Matthew 5:21-22, and when he challenges traditional Sabbath restrictions in Luke 14, he is challenging traditional understandings of the Bible and introduces what we might call ‘a new hermeneutical principle’: namely compassion.”
I would also share one more of his older quotes… found below…
“This is why, for starters, I’m a Christian: the image of God conveyed by Jesus as the son of God, and the image of the universe that resonates with his image of God best fit my deepest experience, best resonate with my deepest intuition, best inspire my deepest hope, and best challenge me to live with what my friend, the late Mike Yaconelli, called ‘dangerous wonder,’ which is the starting point for a generous orthodoxy.” This quote provided by this site and link here.
If this is not speaking from his own experience, from his heart, then there is ‘nothing’ more to clarify about his ’emerging church. I offer two scripture passages to lighten your path from the darkness in man’s path… often created by man himself.
Romans 14:5 KJV One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Deuteronomy 29:18 KJV Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
There can be ‘nothing’ understood by dim light in the world of man… the light to see by comes by way of Jesus Christ Himself.
As there is much self-pleasing in setting up narrow standards of Christian fellowship, so one of the best preservatives against the temptation to do this will be found in the continual remembrance that CHRIST is the one Object for whom all Christians live, and to whom all Christians die; this will be such a living and exalted bond of union between the strong and the weak as will overshadow all their lesser differences and gradually absorb them ( Romans 14:7-9 ).
The synthesis of thought, ideas or methods used, as it so relates to God Himself, should rest solely on scripture…
The true answer to both lies in dismissing the question as impertinent. The apostle is enunciating a great and eternal principle in Christian Ethics–that the wilfull violation of conscience contains within itself a seed of destruction; or, to express it otherwise, that the total destruction of the work of God in the renewed soul, and, consequently, the loss of that soul for eternity, needs only the carrying out to its full effect of such violation of the conscience. Whether such effects do take place, in point of fact, the apostle gives not the most distant hint here; and therefore that point must be settled elsewhere. But, beyond all doubt, as the position we have laid down is emphatically expressed by the apostle, so the interests of all who call themselves Christians require to be proclaimed and pressed on every suitable occasion. It is my hope you will stick to the basics, as the ‘Bible’ stands for,”Basic instructions before leaving Earth.” Stick to what God says about knowledge… about love… about hope eternal, secured by our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray you will not be deceived by the many heresies that will surely abound… as these are the days that matter most- the end run! Will you think about this? I pray you will. (D.V.)
