“A belief is not merely an idea the mind possesses, it is an idea
that possesses the mind”
Robert Oxton Bolton
We live in a world today where belief is growing more and more important but more important than our words we believe is the actions that follow them- for the actions of a believer is where the importance of what one believes is found. In the case of our believing ourselves to be an ally or an enemy of whomever it might be… would, and should, come down to what we do and who we do it for. There is the belief in things being the same as it was in ‘the Fifties’ but this is not the same reality you or I live in today. To believe this is to be living in a fantasy… a falsehood, for the standards of what was known and common [then] are decidedly different and uncommon [today]- as they are being understood and acted upon. If an anomaly to what we believe is discovered then it should either be a mistake, and corrected, or it is found to be in direct conflict to what we believe [if not changed]. If it is not changed then it could be said to have been intentional, something done on purpose and deliberate.
As it comes to the beliefs of man, and even words which espouse goodness [that which we should do for and toward one another], mankind has a strange tendency to fail… not only himself but those around us. The omission of expected or required action to understand or comprehend our failure for or toward another can leave the very words of man, we may agree with, to fall flat- left as platitudes without consequence to who gets hurt, harmed or even worse. This is the exact reason why what we believe has more and more importance today than at any other time in human history. As it comes to consequence(s) of one’s beliefs, I can think of nothing worse than the growing wave of persecution coming to rest on the people believing in Jesus Christ [known as ‘the body of Christ’ on this Earth] and the trend of ‘intolerance’ being justified by legal means worldwide.
Here is the, UDHR [Universal Declaration of Human Rights], agreed to by a world body… but not honored [no requirements or penalties are in place]- so mankind fails humanity. It has been sixty five (65) years since this was disclosed as a means to give the thoughts of peaceful cohabitation, and it is christian groups and organizations which have [and still try] to reach out and physically offer help to those without: clean water, food, education and shelter [considered the bare basics to sustain life]. Is this the best we can do?
I ask that you would pray prior to reading the scriptures, and may God grant you the wisdom to know the truth as it is written in His Holy word.
MATT 24: 1-14
1 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” 3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” 4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ’I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
So, when it comes to belief… who do you believe in? Do you believe in Jesus being the son of God [as He claimed]? Pilate walked away from Jesus, only to mutter,”Truth, what is truth? I have a thought for you… a phrase to point out my belief to truth, found below.
“What is true for one may not be for another… and that is the truth about truth.”
I can find no other belief to rely on more faithful [or truthful/testing validity and veracity] than the christian belief, based on the writings of the Bible, the foundation for Judaism, and the greatest story ever told of God caring so much for that which He created- mankind itself. We have been told of belief [from the word of God],”He who believes in Jesus as the son of God shall yet live.” This is found in
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
It is my hope you will have time to ponder these words… to change your mind about that which you might have thought you knew [to be true], so that God Himself can change your heart. The day draws nearer… to decide which camp you are in, and I believe I choose to be in the camp of people believing Jesus is ‘the Messiah,’ won’t you? (D.V.)
Your Brother in Christ Jesus,
